How to play Accordion
Accordion lays the whole deck out in one long line, read left to right like a book. The goal is to squeeze all 52 cards into a single pile.
- Every card starts as its own pile, face up.
- A pile can move onto the pile just to its left, or onto the pile three places to its left, when the two top cards share a suit or a rank: a 7 on any 7, or any heart on a heart.
- The whole pile moves, and the piles to its right close up the gap.
- You don't have to make a move just because you can.
- Tap a pile to move it. If it can go to two places, both light up: tap the one you want.
Undo has no limit. Winning is rare, so many players count five piles or fewer as a good game.
Tips
- Look before you move: a jump of three often joins piles that would otherwise never meet.
- Work from the right of the line as well as the left. Moves near the end keep more choices open.
- Before a move, check whether it breaks another match you could have made.
Keyboard
Arrow keys move between piles. Enter or Space plays the pile you're on. H shows a hint, Escape cancels a selection, and Ctrl+Z undoes a move.
Questions
Which piles can I move?
Any pile, onto the pile just to its left or the one three to its left, when the two top cards share a suit or a rank. The whole pile moves, and the piles on the right close up.
How often can Accordion be won?
Rarely: one common estimate is about one game in a hundred. Many players count five piles or fewer as a good result. Unlimited undo lets you try other orders.
Is there a daily Accordion?
Not yet. We only publish daily deals we can check can be won, and checking an Accordion deal takes a long search.
