How to play Double Solitaire

How Double Solitaire starts: stock (59 cards), waste, eight foundations, two for each suit, and nine columns.

Double Solitaire is Klondike played with two decks shuffled together. Build all eight foundations from Ace to King to win: there are two for each suit.

Undo has no limit. Every daily deal can be won.

Double Solitaire for two players

The name also belongs to a table game for two people. Each player takes a deck with a different back and lays out an ordinary Klondike game. The foundations go in the middle, and both players can build on them. Players take turns. You move cards on your own layout and onto the foundations, and your turn ends when you turn the next card of your stock onto your discard pile. The first player to get every card onto the foundations wins; if you both get stuck, whoever has played more cards there wins (Pagat). On this page you play the one-player, two-deck version.

Tips

Keyboard

Arrow keys move between cards and piles. Enter or Space selects a card and places it. D draws from the stock, H shows a hint, Escape cancels a selection, and Ctrl+Z undoes a move.

Questions

What is Double Solitaire?

Here it's Klondike played with two decks shuffled together: nine columns, a stock of 59 cards, and eight foundations, two for each suit. The name is also used for a game for two people, described below the rules.

How do I play Double Solitaire with two people?

Each player has their own deck and lays out a Klondike game. The foundations sit in the middle and both of you can play onto them, taking turns. The first to get every card home wins; if you both get stuck, whoever has played more cards to the foundations wins.

Is it easier than Klondike?

Usually, yes. With two of every card there is often a second card that fits, so you get stuck less. The game is longer: 104 cards go home instead of 52.

Can every daily deal be won?

Yes. A computer solver that can see every card checks each daily deal before we publish it. Ordinary deals are random, and some of those can't be won.
