How to play Golf Solitaire
Golf uses one deck. 35 cards are dealt face up in seven columns of five. The other 17 are the stock, with one turned up to start the waste. Clear every column to win.
- Play the last card of any column onto the waste if it's one higher or one lower, in any suit: on a 7, a 6 or an 8.
- The run doesn't go round the corner: only a Queen goes on a King, and only a 2 on an Ace.
- When nothing fits, tap the stock to turn up a new waste card. The stock goes through once.
- Every card is face up, so you can plan ahead: look for the column whose cards make the longest run.
- To play a card, tap it. You can drag it onto the waste instead.
Undo has no limit, and it can take back a card turned from the stock too.
Keyboard
Arrow keys move between the free cards and the stock. Enter or Space plays a card. D turns a card from the stock, H shows a hint, and Ctrl+Z undoes a move.
Questions
Which cards can I play?
The last card of any column, if it's one higher or one lower than the card on the waste, in any suit. Only a Queen goes on a King, and only a 2 on an Ace.
Why is it called Golf?
Like a round of golf, the aim is a low score: the fewer cards left in the columns, the better. Clearing them all is a win.
Can every deal be won?
No. Golf is hard. When we tested 200 random deals with a computer solver, it could clear only about 4 in 10. Daily deals can all be won: the solver checks each one.
