How to play Aces Up
Aces Up uses one deck and four columns. Throw away cards until only the four Aces are left, one in each column.
- Four cards are dealt face up, one onto each column. The rest stay in the stock.
- When two or more columns show a card of the same suit, you can throw away the lower one. Aces are high, so an Ace is never thrown away.
- Any top card can move into an empty column.
- Choose the stock to deal four more cards, one onto each column. You can deal whenever you like.
- To throw a card away, tap it. If there's an empty column, the first tap selects the card: tap it again to throw it away, or tap the empty column to move it there.
Undo has no limit, and every daily deal can be won.
Tips
- Throw away everything you can before you deal. A new card can cover the one you meant to remove.
- When a column empties, move an Ace into it if one is buried. An Ace on its own never needs to move again.
- Keep high cards on top where you can: a King showing lets you throw away every lower card of its suit.
Keyboard
Arrow keys move between cards. Enter or Space plays the card you're on. D deals, H shows a hint, Escape cancels a selection, and Ctrl+Z undoes a move.
Questions
Are Aces high or low in Aces Up?
High. An Ace is never thrown away, which is why the four Aces are what's left when you win.
What can go in an empty column?
Any card from the top of another column. Moving an Ace there is often the best use of it, since an Ace never has to move again.
How often can you win?
Not often. One common estimate is about one game in 35 with ordinary play. Every daily deal here can be won: a computer that can see every card checks each one before we publish it.
