How to play Killer Sudoku
Killer Sudoku follows the Sudoku rules, with one more: the grid is divided into cages, outlined with dashes, each with a small total in its corner.
- Fill every row, column and 3 × 3 box with the numbers 1 to 9, each once.
- The numbers in a cage add up to its total, and no number repeats inside a cage.
- Small cages are the place to start: a two-square cage of 3 can only be 1 and 2; a cage of 17 can only be 8 and 9.
- A whole row, column or box adds up to 45, which helps you work out a square that pokes out of its cages.
- Easy gives you some numbers to start; Medium fewer; Hard none.
- Tap a square, then a number. Turn on Notes to pencil in candidates. Check shows any square that doesn't match the solution.
Undo has no limit, and every puzzle has exactly one solution.
Keyboard
Arrow keys move between squares. Number keys fill a square, N toggles notes, Backspace erases, and Ctrl+Z undoes.
Questions
How is Killer Sudoku different from Sudoku?
The usual rules still apply: 1 to 9 once in every row, column and box. On top of that, the grid is divided into cages outlined with dashes. The numbers in a cage add up to the small total in its corner, and no number repeats inside a cage.
Does every puzzle have one solution?
Yes. A solver checks every puzzle before it goes in the bank and keeps only those with exactly one solution.
What do the levels mean?
Easy gives you some numbers to start with, Medium fewer, and Hard none at all: just the cages.
