How to play Tangram
Fill the dark outline with all seven pieces: two large triangles, a medium one, two small ones, a square and a parallelogram. Every piece is used once, and none may overlap.
- Drag a piece onto the outline. When you let go near a corner, it snaps into place.
- Tap a piece (without dragging) to turn it an eighth of a turn. The Turn button does the same for the chosen piece, and Flip turns the parallelogram over; it is the only piece whose mirror image is different.
- A piece turns red when it overlaps another. The line under the board counts how many pieces sit inside the outline.
- Place one puts a piece where it belongs when you are stuck. Undo takes back as many moves as you like, and there is no time limit.
Start with the two large triangles: they cover half the shape, so where they go decides the rest. Choose another shape under the board; the daily shape is the same for everyone.
Keyboard
Tab to a piece. The arrow keys move it one step (hold Shift for a quarter step), R turns it (Shift+R the other way), F flips the parallelogram, and Enter snaps it to the nearest corner. H places a piece for you, and Ctrl+Z undoes a move.
Questions
What are the seven pieces?
Two large triangles, a medium triangle, two small triangles, a square and a parallelogram, cut from one square. Every shape uses all seven, with no overlaps.
How do I turn a piece?
Tap it without dragging, or choose it and press Turn. The parallelogram also has Flip, because its mirror image is a different shape. On a keyboard, R turns and F flips.
Does a piece have to land exactly?
No. Let go near where it belongs and it snaps to the nearest corner. On a keyboard, Enter snaps the chosen piece.
What if I get stuck?
Place one puts a piece where it belongs. You can also undo as many moves as you like, and there is no time limit.
